Marcos Pérez has been a teacher at Gaztelueta since 2000. Throughout his 24 years of experience in our school he has taught Language, Mathematics, Basque and Physical Education, a task he is currently carrying out with Primary and Secondary students.
In addition to his professional work, which he carries out with tremendous enthusiasm, he dedicates part of his free time to continuing his physical preparation, updating the times of the different tests he carries out in class and practising sport as a tool to "charge his battery for the next day". At the weekend he devotes his time to his family: hiking, cycling, reading and good films.
What time do you wake up every morning? I usually wake up around 7.15am and normally without an alarm clock. It's true that I set the alarm at 7.30 in case I fall asleep, but I always wake up without an alarm clock. That also has a downside: even at the weekend I get up at around 7am...
What is your best moment of the day? The best moment of the day is when I get home after work (usually after an intense day), change and put on comfortable clothes to be at home, have a snack of fruit and sit in my armchair, in silence and close my eyes for thirty minutes to "disconnect". I have been doing this for many years and it relaxes me a lot: it is a time to "recharge my battery", which I recommend.
Your favourite film? I have in mind several films that, in my opinion, are great cinema productions, but without a doubt, I would go for Noah's diary as it highlights the idea that true love goes beyond difficulties. It is like life itself where one has to face numerous obstacles day by day, but that commitment, persistence and hard work overcomes any difficulties.
Which historical figure would you go to dinner with? I admire several historical figures for their achievements, discoveries, etc. (Ghandi, Einstein, Mozart,...), but without a doubt, I would have liked to live in Jesus' time and to have met him. He is the most influential person in my life: nobody like Him makes me try to be a better person and a better professional every day.
What would you eat at your last meal? Knowing that it will be the last dinner, I would like to have several starters to share, in the form of "cazuelitas" (small casseroles), without a main course, and then move on to dessert with a tasting of the three best desserts my mother used to make: rice pudding, apple pie and cheesecake. Of course, a dinner decorated with candles, and accompanied by my wife and daughter.
A phrase that has left its mark on you? I keep in my heart a phrase that my parents instilled in me and my three siblings: "a pan duro, diente agudo", that is, when the effort is proportional to the difficulty, everything is achieved. And this is how I define my education: work, effort, sacrifice, learning from mistakes and persistence. When I was at COU and I was unsure about what career to study, my mother told me: "think that what you choose will be for life" and she advised me: "you must love your profession so that you can improve yourself and get better every day". And so I decided to become a teacher.
What has been the best thing about your time at Gaztelueta? The best thing about my time at Gaztelueta is feeling that it is more than just an educational centre. Gaztelueta is my second home; that's how I've felt since I joined in 2000. That says it all. When I meet former students, I feel proud of the human quality they have: how nice they are, how they greet you and make you talk, recalling dozens of anecdotes... and how polite they are! And how polite they are. Without a doubt, you can see that they carry the "Gaztelueta brand" as a sign of identity.
Which event do you remember most fondly? 8.- The event that I remember most fondly are several; I can't choose just one. I will mention just two: the trip to Rome (October 2002) to the canonisation of St. Joseph Mary with the Baccalaureate students had a great impact on me and every year at the Sports Festival the parade of all the students is spectacular. Seeing how the families watch their children is very moving.
With whom would you watch a sunset under this mast? Watching a sunset is a wonderful thing and a very special moment, so I would definitely choose my wife to see how lucky we are to have a school in such a privileged location. The views from the mast are spectacular.
