Gaztelueta's Christian identity

Gaztelueta was born almost seventy-five years ago as an educational project promoted by some families. They wanted to offer their children a school in Bilbao that would provide an education in values, in a close family environment centred on the person, on the development of human virtues and with a deep Christian sense of life.
The Christian identity in Gaztelueta  is an ecosystem that provides the appropriate resources to train our students in respect for all, freedom and a spirit of service. Gaztelueta, an educational centre inspired by these principles, is a space illuminated by a high-minded and attractive message, deeply human and open to transcendence.

At the request of Gaztelueta, the Prelature of Opus Dei is responsible for the pastoral work of the chaplaincy, spiritual care and Christian vivification through the priests who attend it. The Christian task entrusted to Opus Dei is to spread the ideal of holiness in the midst of the world, in professional work and in ordinary circumstances.

Oratories

Meeting place with God

To facilitate the practice of the sacraments and prayer life, Gaztelueta has three oratories or chapels, in the Central Pavilion, in the Infants' building and in the Chalet. In these chapels, the Eucharist is celebrated daily and those who wish to receive the Sacrament of Penance are attended to.

The Gaztelueta chaplains are always available to offer spiritual guidance and administer the sacraments, especially the sacrament of penance, and attend the confessional every day at the indicated times.

Working hours from Monday to Friday:

8:00h and 11:35h in the oratory of the Central Pavilion

13:05h in the children's oratory

Confession times:

Every day from 8:30 am to 9:00 am in the Central oratory

Wednesdays from 13:30h to 14:30h or Fridays from 15:30h to 16:15h in the Children's oratory.

Any time between 12:00h and 16:20h by asking at the school secretary's office or by telephone.

 

 

Preparation for the sacraments

Baptism

The baptism of newborns will always be arranged through the parish to which the parents belong. In the case of adults, whether they are pupils or not, the chaplaincy can provide them with prior doctrinal and spiritual preparation and the administrative steps to carry it out in the corresponding parish or, where appropriate, -for those of legal age-, in the cathedral with the Bishop of Bilbao.

Marriage

Marriage preparation courses are organised for couples of former students who wish to attend.

They analyse topics such as the couple, the keys to living together, communication in marriage, responsible parenthood, the meaning of marriage and sexuality, among others.

First Communion

At the school we organise catechesis in preparation for both first confession and first communion. This takes place over three years from 2nd to 4th year of primary school. It is voluntary for those who wish to receive these sacraments at school with their classmates. The catechesis takes place during school hours and outside of regular classes. For adults who wish to make their first communion, the necessary formation is also provided and, if necessary, the corresponding ceremony is organised.

Confirmation

The school prepares students in the 1st year of Bachillerato to receive Confirmation. In the event that other adults: teachers, professors or other members of the Gaztelueta families, would like to receive it, they can contact the chaplaincy to organise the previous doctrinal preparation. Both the students of the school and these other people receive Confirmation in the same ceremony presided over by the Bishop of Bilbao in the Church of Las Mercedes.

Family masses in November at the beginning of the catechesis.
Penitential act and imposition of ashes on Ash Wednesday.
First confession ceremonies in the first week of Lent.
Confirmation ceremony for high school students and other adults who wish to attend.
First communion ceremonies in May.
Family pilgrimage to the Virgin with the singing of the Salve in May in the school garden.
Mass of thanksgiving for all families on the day of the sports festival.
Eucharistic procession outside the school in June.
Mass in honour of St. Josemaría on June 26th.

Monthly retreats organised at the school

For teachers, former students, parents and friends invited on the third Monday of the month at 20:00h in the Chalet oratory.
Aimed at teachers, mothers, former pupils and invited friends on the second Thursday of the month at 15:15h in the oratory of the Infant School.

Accompanying families in the education of their children since 1951.

Covering all educational stages, from Kindergarten to Baccalaureate, allows us to work with each student as a whole person, developing all their intellectual aptitudes and forging a personality that will allow them to achieve their future goals.

Schools of values

We propose values through sport, combining individual effort and self-improvement with teamwork. Pupils can join the football, basketball, handball and athletics teams.
