The opinions of families, students and alumni, a tradition at Gaztelueta

Gaztelueta, from the very beginning, set out to go hand in hand with parents in both pedagogical and human and spiritual education. Our educational philosophy is committed to personalised, differentiated education and the importance of the family.

We work with an educational model that seeks personalised attention for all students, so that each one can achieve an integral development of their abilities and their person and become a fundamental part of the society of which they form a part.

That is why we carry out satisfaction surveys with both families and students. A peculiarity in Gaztelueta is that these surveys are extended to former students who wish to participate, as they are part of our educational community and are concerned that Gaztelueta maintains a spirit of continuous improvement.

As this is a tradition and a way of understanding the role of parents, students and alumni, we are pleased to have received over 900 comments and suggestions of various kinds: 99 comments and suggestions on extracurricular activities, resources and services; 86 on the relationship between the school and families, 149 on pedagogical and academic aspects, and 90 on human and Christian formation. In addition, 205 comments on the school's strengths were collected.

From these comments, proposals for improvement are drawn up and shared with the teaching staff and the Parents' Association (APYMA). They also serve as support to work on the strategic plan with 3 well-defined axes:

  1. To offer a family school with a high quality educational project under the principles of Christian humanism, where personalised education is key to accompany each family in the education of their sons and daughters.
  2. To promote a global school, with a trilingual framework open to pedagogical innovation and internationalisation, encouraging a mentality open to different cultural realities.
  3. Helping to solve the educational and social needs of the environment by contributing to Sustainable Development from an economic, environmental and social dimension, taking care of people and the environment.

Precept

At Gaztelueta, families have a tutor or preceptor who is a teacher who guides them in their children's educational work and who also talks periodically with the pupils to help them achieve the objectives they have set themselves. This is a key link, which both families and pupils value with a 5 for more than 50% and with a 4 for 20% and 27% respectively. 62%dthe pupils value the preceptor interviews as very positive, highlighting that they help them to improve as people.

Coexistence

At our school we believe that respect is the basis of all coexistence. This is why the survey asks pupils whether they consider that they treat their classmates with kindness and whether they feel well treated. Almost 55% rate the atmosphere of companionship and respect for others as very positive. 39% of the families gave a 5, 28% a 4 and 20% a 3.

Facilities

Gaztelueta is located in Leioa and has 52,969 m2 of green area. Since 1951 it has adapted its spaces to the educational needs and growth in the number of pupils. Furthermore, aware of the educational value of sport, Gaztelueta has 17,000 m2 dedicated to sport, a third of its total surface area. Football pitch, swimming pool, indoor multi-sports courts and a complete sports centre are some of our facilities. Parents, 87%, rate the quality of the school's facilities with a 5. Among pupils this percentage is 72%.

Extracurricular activities and sport

In extra-curricular sports, 71% rate the pupils with 4 and 5; while 48% rate the families with 5 and 33% with 4.

The rest of the extracurricular activities receive a similar assessment.

Services

A varied and balanced diet is the basis for a healthy life and this is the perspective from which we work in the school canteen, where we prepare balanced menus and work to ensure that pupils learn to eat all types of food from an early age. The families report that 17% reach a 5 in the degree of satisfaction, 37% with a 4, and 26% with three points out of 5. Among the pupils - just over 1,100 pass through the canteen every day - 49% give a score of 4 and 5, and 23% a score of 3.

The Gaztelueta bus service has 10 routes that allow us to cover large geographical areas. We pick up and drop off pupils from their home to school and back on time. 69% of families rate it a 4 or 5, and 19% give it a 3.
