Last Saturday, the University of Deusto campus in Bilbao became the setting for the 16th edition of the First Lego League Euskadi, a competition that brings together young people from more than 170 schools to explore the world of robotics and innovation.

A Comprehensive Educational Experience

The First Lego League programme is an international initiative that uses LEGO kits for children and teenagers to design and program robots, facing themed challenges that test their skills in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) areas. In this edition, the CYBERGAZTE team, made up of 3rd ESO students, demonstrated not only their technical ability, but also the importance of teamwork and creativity in solving problems.

Development of the event

During the competition, participants had the opportunity to:

  • Designing and programming robots: The young people worked in teams to create robotic solutions capable of fulfilling specific missions in a playful and interactive environment.
  • Solving thematic challenges: Each proposed challenge was aligned with a current topic, inviting students to think innovatively and apply theoretical knowledge in practical situations.
  • Presenting projects: In addition to the practical part, the teams presented their ideas and work processes in front of a specialised jury, receiving feedback that motivated them to continue to improve their skills.

Collaboration and Institutional Support

The success of the event was made possible thanks to the collaboration of key institutions such as Innobasquethe University of Deusto, Munibertsitatea y UPV-EHU. These entities provided resources and expertise to ensure that the competition took place in an environment of high educational quality, reaffirming their commitment to fostering innovation and STEAM skills in young people.

Impact on the Education Community

Beyond the competition, the First Lego League Euskadi has established itself as a platform that:

  • Encourages creativity: By confronting students with real and thematic problems, they are encouraged to think outside the box and look for unconventional solutions.
  • Promotes teamwork: The collaborative nature of the competition teaches young people the importance of communication, joint planning and respect for the ideas of their peers.
  • Develops technical skills: From programming to basic mechanics, the experience gained prepares students for future academic and professional challenges in technological fields.

Looking to the Future

The enthusiasm and dedication shown by the CYBERGAZTE team in this edition of the First Lego League Euskadi is an example of the potential of the new generations. Projects like this not only boost interest in technology, but also prepare students to be leaders and agents of change in an increasingly digital and globalised world.

All in all, the 16th edition of the competition was presented as a celebration of ingenuity, collaboration and passion for learning, marking a significant step on the road to developing future innovators and professionals in the STEAM field.
