At the end of the term and before the exams, the 4th ESO students, accompanied by their teachers, went on a trip to the town of Salinas de A\u00f1ana in Alava, where they visited the Salt Valley Interpretation Centre.<\/p>\n
Salinas de A\u00f1ana is one of the oldest salt factories in the world, with 6,500 years of history. The visit is of special interest if we take into account that salt, which is so abundant and so cheap, could have been so important in the past. Salt was and is indispensable in a multitude of industrial processes, as well as in our food. It was even more so when industrial refrigeration systems had not yet been developed, as it was one of the most effective methods for preserving food in good condition.<\/p>\n
The salt landscape, unique in the world, is made up of thousands of platforms or threshing floors, springs, canals, wells and warehouses, which the students visited accompanied by expert guides.
