Yesterday Zabalketa<\/em> <\/a>and Gaztelueta once again joined forces to hold a solidarity concert in favour of El Huambrillo<\/em>a children's shelter located in Iquitos, Peru, which the NGO has been running since 2001. The families and students who attended the event had the opportunity to listen to the school's Parents' Choir who, directed by Urkiol Solagaistua, performed a wide repertoire, including songs such as Vois sur ton chemin<\/em> o Edelweiss<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event took place as part of a new initiative proposed by Zabalketa and the school in which the aim is to assign each year group a solidarity project so that the pupils in each year group will be linked to a specific project throughout their school career. On this occasion, the 5th year Primary pupils decided to organise a collection to give sports shoes to the girls who live in the shelter. With this initiative, the school aims to promote solidarity and volunteering among students, as well as their sensitivity to problems that are not as far from our reality as it might seem at first glance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event also included a presentation by the students explaining the foundation and mission of Zabalketa, as well as the work it carries out in the field. El Huambrillo<\/em>. Jaime Bernar (Prom. 20), founder and Project Director of Zabalketa, was also present and answered questions from the students and explained the work of the NGO in its 33 years of history. Finally, to end the event, the students gave a tour to the attendees in which they explained the reality of Iquitos and El Huambrillo<\/em> through blackboards prepared by the participants themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zabalketa is an NGDO founded by former Gaztelueta students in 1991. During this time, the organisation has focused on supporting those most in need in countries all over the world. Since its foundation, Zabalketa and Gaztelueta have gone hand in hand, so much so that all the members of the Gaztelueta Alumni Association are also part of Zabalketa. The organisation started operating in the area of Peru, but currently operates in a total of six countries (Peru, Bolivia, Colombia, Nigeria, the Philippines and Spain). In these countries, the organisation has accumulated more than 100 large cooperation projects and has benefited more than 250,000 people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
