The construction of electric cars with recycled plastic bottles allows to address in a practical and attractive way the care for the environment, the preference for the use of renewable energies and technological innovation.

Today, we find ourselves among generations constantly dealing with plastic waste, an issue that has become a large-scale environmental problem. Every year, millions of tonnes of plastic are produced and end up in the oceans, polluting the environment and harming marine wildlife. As well as the current energy problem which requires us to looking for cleaner energy sources. Therefore, raising awareness about recycling and sustainability is a hope for reducing the negative impact of plastic and pollution on the planet. In this way, we believe that the second year of primary school is a key time to instil values such as environmental responsibility and responsible consumption.

In addition, the construction of electric cars from recycled plastic bottles not only encourages the environmental awareness, but also allows the development of three skills or abilities necessary for the development of the person. Firstly, creativity. Students will design and build their own electric car, putting their imagination and creativity into practice. Secondly, the teamworkessential for the performance of the project, since collaboration, assistance and exchange of ideas make it possible to achieve any common goal. And thirdly, the skills called STEAMThe project is based on a series of activities that cover basic concepts of science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics. In this way, concepts such as care for the environment, the circular economy or technological innovation are brought closer to early generations and in a suitable and flexible way to the imagination of the youngest children at this stage, encouraging motivation and enthusiasm for learning.

Since its inception, a methodology of project-based learning (ABP), where the students have been the protagonists of their own learning. It has encouraged the researchthe collaborative workthe problem solving and the creativity. The activities are planned both in the classroom and in other areas of the school, using a variety of teaching resources.
The procedure and sequencing of the project is as follows. The students will be the active agents of the project, participating in all the phases:

Research: They will look for information about plastic recycling, cars
electrical and the construction of simple models.

Design: They will plan the design of their electric car, using sketches, drawings, and
digital tools.

Construction: They will work as a team to build their electric car, using
recycled plastic bottles, other recycled materials and components
basic electronics.

Tests and improvements: They will test and fine-tune their
electric cars.

Presentation: They will expose their projects to the rest of the educational community and
including to other organisations and institutions.

The project to build electric cars from waste arose from the need to raise awareness among second year primary school pupils about the importance of recycling and sustainability, while encouraging their creativity, teamwork and STEAM skills.
